Early 60s Danelectro
I'm checking one more source on what "3022" means for the finish. Fetched https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1962_Danelectro_Shorthorn_3022.jpg I can't pin it to one year from the photo. The most likely range is the early-to-mid 1960s, roughly 1962–1966. The date code under the neck (below) is the only thing that can narrow it down. Why that range: It's a Shorthorn. The double-cutaway body with vinyl edging, the "Coke bottle" headstock and the seal-shaped pickguard are the original Danelectro Shorthorn. That model was introduced in 1959 and made until Danelectro closed in 1969, so it can't be from the mid-1950s. (Wikipedia – Danelectro Shorthorn) The model number sets the earliest date. Sources say the 3021 appeared in 1959 and the 3022 in 1962. If the "3022" on your label is right, the guitar is 1962 or later. The black finish probably makes it a 3021. In the sources I found, the 3022 is the two-pickup Standard in a bronze/copper finish, like the one in this Wikipedia photo and the Reverb listing. A black two-pickup Shorthorn is normally a 3021, the same model Jimmy Page played. (Vintage & Rare 1959 3021, Guitar Gavel) If yours is a 3021, it could be as early as 1959, but most of them were made in the 1960s. How to get the exact year: Danelectro stamped a code in the neck pocket, so you'd have to take the neck off to see it. It's usually 3 or 4 digits: The first two digits are the week of the year. The last digit is the last digit of the year. For example, "4286" would be the 42nd week of 1956 or 1966. The model sorts out which decade, and a Shorthorn has to be 1959 or later. (Still Kickin Music – "The Serial Bowl", eHow – How to Date a Danelectro) The "550-01" on your label doesn't match that pattern, so I wouldn't use it to date the guitar.
